Italian Sausage Pizza

I almost didn't post this recipe - I mean it's WAY simple and I used some pretty big shortcuts - but I thought, what the hell.. this can be one of those recipes for those nights when you just don't want to put a ton of effort into a good hearty dinner for your family.  Serve this with a nice side salad and you have a great meal that takes less than 30 minutes to make!

Ingredients:
1/2 lbs Italian sausage, casings removed if necessary
1 yellow sweet pepper, chopped
2 oz black olives, sliced or chopped
1/2 cup pizza sauce, store bought or homemade
Pizza dough (I used Pillsbury classic crust)
2 cups mozzarella cheese

Directions:
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage until it is no longer pink and cooked through (about 8-10 minutes).  Add the yellow peppers and cook another 3 minutes.  Remove from heat, drain, and allow to cool just a bit.

Preheat oven according to dough instructions.  On a greased cookie sheet, stretch out the dough (mine fit nicely on a 15"x10" cookie sheet).  Spread the sauce evenly over the dough.  Top with cooked sausage and peppers.  Add the black olives and cover with cheese.  Bake for 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbling.  Remove from oven, slice, and enjoy!

  1. Sometimes I debate posting the really simple recipes; but ya know, we all need reminders that it's okay to use shortcuts to make a great meal. We also need inspiration, and this is sure it! It's so easy to get caught up in trying to find something new and novel that we forget the beauty of PIZZA - great lunch, dinner or breakfast ... :)

  3. I agree, while it may use 'cheater' ingredients, who cares! I've never tried that kind of pizza dough, thinking I might have to stash a tube in the fridge for those lazy nights. They happen often after all :) The pizza looks great!!

  5. A nice, easy, and delicious recipe! We all need to have some of these up our sleeve for that 'need something involving protein - quick' emergency! (you know, the kind of thing that would otherwise find me eating chocolate chips right out of the bag!)

  6. I know it sounds weird, but I feel kind of virtuous when I throw something together quickly (even using shortcuts like this) versus picking up the phone and ordering in. But then again - now and then that's just what the doctor ordered too. Looks great Jenn!

  7. nothing wrong with simple... and in fact I was given THE best present for Christmas this year, which was a Star Trek Enterprise Pizza Cutter, so I need to make pizza and this is a perfect place to start ... Happy New Year x

  9. This is my kind of pie. You've kept it "underdressed" and I love that. I hope you had a wonderful holiday and that 2012 brings only good things your way. Blessings...Mary

  10. I did several Pilsbury dough pizzas over the holidays. I scorched the seasoning off my pizza stone and had to do several cooks to rebuild the seasoning of the stone. I wasn't about to risk making homemade dough when I didn't know how it would turn out on the stone. I was actually pleased with it.
